Dear Bangor Families,

We would like to address recent concerns regarding the presence of immigration officials in our state. Maine is a large state that has a unique community feel, and it is important that everyone feels safe and supported. We want you to know that we are aware of these concerns and are approaching them thoughtfully and responsibly.

The Bangor School Department is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all our students and staff. We prioritize ensuring that everyone feels secure and empowered to excel in their learning.

We understand that some families may have questions or worries about this situation. To help, we encourage you to reach out to the Maine Multicultural Center, which offers support and resources for individuals from diverse backgrounds. You can find more information at mainemulticulturalcenter.org. We also have a list of community and state resources available on our website to assist families.

Our staff receive ongoing training to ensure confidentiality, safety, and professionalism, and all administrators maintain current training to respond appropriately in situations, including communication with local, state, and federal law enforcement as necessary.

If you have any questions or if your child needs additional support—whether it's related to mental health, economic assistance, or any specific concerns—please don't hesitate to contact your school principal or the Superintendent’s Office at 207-262-9125.

Thank you for your continued support in making Bangor’s schools a safe and inclusive place for everyone. Together, we can help our children thrive in a diverse world.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marie Robinson

Superintendent of Schools
